English[edit]

Noun[edit]

misdemeanist (plural misdemeanists)

  1. One who commits a misdemeanor.
    • 1895, Charles Lever, The Novels of Charles Lever, page 193:
Never did a misdemeanist take his “six weeks” with a more complete consciousness of penalty than did Polly sit down to that piano. She well understood it as a sentence, and, let me own, submitted well and gracefully to her fate.
    • 1948, United States. Congress. House. Committee on Education, Hearings, page 61:
Courts have held in many instances that it is better to allow a misdemeanist to escape rather than take his life.
