Borrowed from Spanish mausoleo, from Latin mausōlēum, from Ancient Greek Μαυσωλεῖον (Mausōleîon), from Μαύσωλος (Maúsōlos); named for Mausolus (Μαύσωλος or Μαύσσωλλος), satrap of the Persian empire and ruler of Caria.
