From negură +‎ -os, less likely corresponding to Latin nebulōsus. Compare nebulos, a later borrowing. Other Romance languages have similar internal formations: Catalan neulós, Italian nebbioso, Occitan neblós, Franco-Provençal niolós, Sicilian nigghiusu, Aromanian niguros, nigurosu etc.
