Etymology[edit]

Hinde (1904) records nyeni as an equivalent of English vegetables in “Jogowini dialect” of Kikuyu, listing also “Ulu dialect” (spoken then from Machakos to coastal area) of Kamba nyunni as its equivalent.[1]
