Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Spanish oxalá, from Arabic لَوْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ (law šāʔa allāhu, “and may God will it”). Compare Arabic إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ (ʔin šāʔa llāhu).
