Etymology[edit]

Formed as pneumon- +‎ -ectomy; equivalent to the Ancient Greek πνεῠμον- (pneumon-, lung) + -εκτομῐ́ᾰ (-ektomía, excision); compare the earlier pneumotomy and the less well-formed pneumectomy.
