Late Latin *pressia, from Latin pressō, iterative form of premō (to press, to squeeze), whence premura. Cognates include Spanish prisa, Neapolitan and Sicilian prescia, Ladin prëscia, Venetian presa, Lombard and Sardinian pressa, Piedmontese spressa, Ligurian sprescia.
