Short for pub company. Compare telco.

Noun[edit]

pubco (plural pubcos)

  1. (UK) A large business enterprise that owns a number of pubs under tenant agreements, or as managed houses.
    • 2009, “House of Commons Select Committee on Trade and Industry Second Report.”, in Hansard[1]:
Many tenants complained that the wholesale price they paid for tied products was excessive, which made them uncompetitive in their local marketplace. However, pubcos told us their wholesale selling price was broadly similar to the standard national wholesale prices, before discount, published by the brewers and charged to free house operators.
