Vietnamese[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

  • (North Central Vietnam) tít (no lenition, with vowel raising)
  • (Southern Vietnam) rít (with lenition, with vowel raising)

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Vietic *-seːt (centipede). Cognate with Muong thết.

This is the Northern form that had undergone lenition but with no vowel raising before stop codas, now also the common formal written form. The other forms with vowel raised can still be seen in informal writing.

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]
