Etymology 1[edit]

From Latin re- + lūstrō (I purify; I illuminate) from Latin lūstrum (sacrifice), or from Proto-Celtic *lowkstro-, from Proto-Celtic *lowko- (bright, light):[1] compare Welsh lluched (lightning) and North Catalan llaucet.[2] Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (to shine).
