Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *writja, from Proto-Indo-European *ṷert 'to turn'. Cognate to Sanskrit वर्तते (vartate), Latin vertō, Gothic wairþan (wairþan, to become)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *̥ritśi-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hr-ei/eh1- 'to sit down, stand, stay'. Its variant rrit is a formation from an original participle stem Hri-to-. The verb is thought to be derived from rri.[2]

Verb[edit]

rris (first-person singular past tense rrita, participle rritur)

  1. to bring up (children), grow up, overgrow
