Inherited from Sanskrit सारथि (sārathi, charioteer), formed from Sanskrit सरथ (saratha, with a chariot), itself स- (sa-, with) +‎ रथ (ratha, chariot), thus synchronously visible as a derivative of ratha (chariot).
