Zulu[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From si- (we) -ya- (present tense) -wu- (you) -bona (to see), therefore literally meaning "we see you". The use of -wu- as a direct object is rare; the more usual way would be -ku-, giving sakubona.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /sawuˈɓona/, [sawuˈɓɔːna]

Interjection[edit]

sawubona

  1. hello (to one person)
  2. good day (good morning, good afternoon, good evening)
