Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *štramba, close to Old Prussian strambo (stubble), Lithuanian strampas (club, truncheon), and Proto-Germanic *strambaz, in Norwegian dial, stramb (strong smell), Middle Low German stram (strong, powerful). Alternatively a derivative of Vulgar Latin *strambus, from Latin strabus, akin to Romanian strâmb.
