Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese sobrancelha, sobrencelha, from Latin supercilia, plural of supercilium (eyebrow), from super (above) + cilium (eyelid). Doublet of supercílio. A nasal infix developed in Portuguese, as with Romansch survantscheglia; cf. also Romanian sprânceană.
