1. A moderate political philosophy that aims to achieve socialistic goals within capitalist society such as by means of a strong welfare state and regulation of private industry.
2. Theory and practice of the transition from capitalism to socialism by democratic means; increasingly replaced in usage by democratic socialism.
3. Society based on either (1) or (2).
