Etymology[edit]

From Middle English tholemod, from Old English þolmōd, þolemōd (forbearing, patient, of a patient disposition; patience, endurance), equivalent to thole +‎ mood. Cognate with Icelandic þolinmóður (patient), Swedish tålmodig (patient), Danish tålmodig (patient).
