Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish طورناویدا (tornavida), from a dialectal variant of Italian tornavite (itself an archaic synonym of cacciavite), from tornare (“to turn, return”) + vite (“screw”). Compare Maltese tornavit. Analysable in Turkish as torna + vida.
