Borrowed from Latin troglodyticus, from Ancient Greek τρωγλοδυτικός (trōglodutikós), from τρωγλοδύτης (trōglodútēs, cave-/hole-dweller) from τρώγλη (trṓglē, hole) + δύω (dúō, enter, go into). By surface analysis, troglodita +‎ -ico.
