Etymology[edit]

Particularly: “txiv (fruit) + Chinese 菠蘿菠萝 (bōluó, “pineapple”). However, Heimbach claims a Thai borrowing, perhaps from สับปะรด (sàp-bpà-rót, id). This doesn't seem to match phonetically as well as the Chinese, particularly with the first syllable completely dropped.”

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /t͡ɕi˧˦.pu˧˦.lu˥˧/
