  1. (heraldry) Not heraldic; not adhering to the norms of heraldry.
    • 1900, The Genealogical Magazine, page 8:
      The crest of Walpole, as it is now borne by the family [] "A Saracen's head ducally crowned Or, with a long ca on gules, thereon a Catherine-wheel Or; [...]." [...] However, it was passed by the College of Arms, and ever since the Walpoles have been saddled with this most inartistic and unheraldic crest.
