Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Vietic *k-puːr (lime), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *knpur (lime), of Austronesian origin. Cognate with Muong pôl, Khmer កំបោរ (kɑmbao), Mon ဂပဵု (həpɒ). Compare Proto-Austronesian *qapuʀ, whence also Malay kapur.
