Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Latin vītex, vīticem through a Vulgar Latin root *vitricem or from Proto-Slavic *vortičь, or maybe a hybrid of both, for both feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) and chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) are women’s herbs, Arabic شَجَرَة مَرْيَم (šajara maryam) bears both meanings too.
