Polish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Polish wątpie. Further etymology unclear. Not found outside Polish. The construction makes it possible to derive the word from Proto-Slavic *ǫtъpьje, *ǫtьpьje, suggesting a connection with the hypothetical verb *vъtьpati (to stuff).
