Navajo[edit]

Etymology[edit]

y- (3rd person object prefix) + -yi- (semelfactive) + -∅- (3rd person subject prefix) + -ł- (classifier)-nih (semelfactive imperfective stem of root -NIIH, “to taste”).

Classifier and stem initial undergo special combination: -ł- + -nih = -lįh.
