White Hmong[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Hmong-Mien *-ʔræi (“vegetable”); cognate with Iu Mien lai and perhaps Middle Chinese 卉 (MC xjw+jX|xjw+jH, “herbs, vegetation”).[1] Likely unrelated to Vietnamese rau (“leafy greens, leaf vegetable”), despite superficial similarities.
