Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Literally, “without looking at the person”. From the frequent biblical expression “to regard/recognize faces” (i.e. be partial to one's friends or the mighty), which follows the expression in Deuteronomy 1:17. The Vulgata translates this as respicere/accipere personam (e.g. Luke 20:21). Compare German ohne Ansehen der Person.
