Etymology[edit]

From earlier *çonjë, either a variant of qoj or from Proto-Albanian *skēnja, possibly cognate with Gothic 𐍃𐌺𐌴𐍅𐌾𐌰𐌽 (skēwjan, to go).[1] Alternatively, from Latin exciēre.[2]
