[edit]Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἔντονος (éntonos),[1] from ἐν- (en-) + τείνω, stem τον- (teínō, stem ton-) + -ος (-os). Stem also found at ἐντείνω (enteínō).[2] Compare English intense.
