Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Connection with ψῆν (psên, gall insect) is not evident. Beside this adjective, we find synonymous ψηνός (psēnós, bald-headed), ψανός (psanós, bald-headed) and ψιλός (psilós, with thin hair). The word is probably Pre-Greek, like many other words with initial ψ-.
