Inherited from Proto-Slavic *bъldyrь, reflected in Belarusian баўды́р (baŭdýr) and вовды́рь (vovdýrʹ) (spelled by Nosovič), dialectal Polish bołdur (smoke ventilation cap on a place of cooking) and Eastern German hydronymy.
