Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old East Slavic сочиво (sočivo, lentil seed). Cognate with Bulgarian сочиво́ (sočivó, soup), Serbo-Croatian со̏чиво (lentils, legumes), Slovene sočȋvo (lentils, legumes). Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *sokъ (juice).
