From Proto-Semitic *daṯʔ-. Cognate with Akkadian 𒌑𒇷𒀀𒊬 (dīšu [U₂.LI.A^sar], “grass”). Compare with Classical Syriac ܬܕܐܐ (“sprouting grass, herb; spring”).
