Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Common Turkic *kač- (to run away, flee); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰴𐰲 (qač-), Azerbaijani qaçmaq, Bashkir ҡасыу (qasıw), Kazakh қашу (qaşu), Kyrgyz качуу (kacuu), Turkmen gaçmak, Uyghur قاچماق (qachmaq) and Uzbek qochmoq.
