[edit]From the root ܓ-ܒ-ܒ (ɡ-b-b). Compare Arabic جُبّ (jubb), Hebrew גֹּב (goḇ) and גֵּב (gēḇ), Aramaic גב (/gōb/, “pit, moat”), Akkadian 𒁺𒁍 (/gubbu/, “reservoir, cistern”).
