Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀤 (muda) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit મૃત (mṛtá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *mr̥tás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mr̥tás, from Proto-Indo-European *mr̥tós (“dead”). Cognate with Kachchi મુઓ (muo), Hindi मुआ (muā), Marathi मेले (mele).
