Etymology 1[edit]
From corruption of ถมอ, from Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer tmo, thmo, or Angkorian Old Khmer thmo, thma, tmo (“rock; stone”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ថ្ម (thmɑɑ) and Lao ສະມໍ (sa mǭ). Possibly related to ตะม่อ / ตอม่อ.
