Etymology[edit]

From Égypte +‎ -ien.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Noun[edit]

Égyptien m (plural Égyptiens, feminine Égyptienne)

  1. Egyptian (person)
    Hyponyms: Alexandrin, Cairote

Usage notes[edit]

  • In older French practice, capital letters did not take diacritics, so É becomes E. This was mostly done because of technical constraints. Formal orthotypography maintains the diacritics.
