Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀳𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bahutta), from Sanskrit बहुत्व (bahutva, “muchness, abundance, multitude”), from Sanskrit बहु (bahu, “much, many, abundant”) from Proto-Indo-European *bʰenǵʰ- (“thick”). Compare Bengali বহুত (bohut), Punjabi ਬਹੁਤ (bahut) / بوْہَت (bohat) and Pahari-Potwari بہوں (bahū̃).
