Etymology

From Vulgar Latin *innotāre, or *notāre (with the prefix în later added to the older Romanian form nota), from Latin natāre, present active infinitive of natō. Compare Aromanian anot, anutari, Italian nuotare, Venetan noar, Romansch nudar, nodar, Old French noer.
