From Old Frisian oven, from Proto-Germanic *ufnaz, *uhnaz (compare English oven, Dutch oven, Low German Aven, German Ofen, Danish ovn, Swedish ugn, Icelandic ofn, Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐌷𐌽𐍃 (auhns)), probably from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ewk- (cooking pot).
