Maltese

Etymology

From Arabic زَعْزُوع (zaʕzūʕ, thin, meagre, lanky) or a variant of it. There exists also a form زُغْزُغ (zuḡzuḡ, short, small) and the Maltese plural żgħażagħ, instead of *żgħaża', would suggest that the original Arabic consonant was probably غ ().
