From Scythian *Xārahōsta (splendid, mighty), composed of *xāra (splendid) + *hauvasta (powerful) (cf. Khotanese hauvasta (powerful).[1]

Cognate with Gandhari 𐨑𐨪𐨀𐨆𐨯𐨿𐨟 (kharaosta).
