Etymology

Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek Ὀλυμπιακόν ἔτος (Olumpiakón étos, Olympic year) with semantic loan from French olympique in relation to the Olympic Games.[1] By surface analysis, Ολύμπια (Olýmpia) +‎ -ακός‎ (-akós‎).
