Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

With ψέλιον (psélion, armlet worn by the Persians) and ψαλόν (psalón, kind of bridle) an Iranian borrowing; synonymous to Classical Persian افسار (afsār, curb chain, halter, headstall), and note also افسر (afsar, diadem).
