From *ata-bāba (ancestors).

A geminate term: Proto-Turkic *ata (father) + Proto-Turkic *bāba (father; grandfather; ancetor).

Cognate with Kazakh ата-баба (ata-baba), Uzbek ota-bobo, Uyghur ئاتابابا (atababa), ئاتابوۋا (atabowa), Turkmen ata-baba, Azerbaijani ata-baba (ancestors), etc.
