Morphologically, is a dative of manner of bir "one".

Cognate with Kazakh бірге (bırge), Kyrgyz бирге (birge), Southern Altai бирге (birge), Uzbek birga, Uyghur بىرگا (birga, together), Azerbaijani birgə, etc.
