Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰋𐰃𐱅𐰏 (bitig, writing; written document; amulet), derived from Old Turkic 𐰋𐰃𐱅𐰃 (biti-, to write, inscribe), presumably from Middle Chinese (MC pit, “writing brush”).
