[edit]Exact etymology is yet unknown. Presumably from Russian постав (postav, “cloth generated on a loom”).
Cognate with Tatar постау (postaw), Chuvash постав (postav) / пустав (pustav, “id.”)
Also, possibly related to Hungarian posztó (“baize”).
