Borrowed from German Geologie,[1] from New Latin geologia, from Ancient Greek γῆ (, earth) + -λογία (-logía, the study of). By surface analysis, гео- (heo-) +‎ -ло́гія (-lóhija). Compare Russian геоло́гия (geológija), Belarusian геало́гія (hjealóhija).
